The Biker Jacket
The classic biker jacket has an asymmetric front zip, wide notched lapels that snap down, and usually a belt or zipped waist. The overlapping front was designed to keep wind out on the road; the lapels can be fastened up for the same reason. Expect more hardware — zipped cuffs, a coin pocket, sometimes epaulettes. It is the more dramatic of the two, and the one most people picture when they think of a leather jacket. Examples: the Black Brando Biker Leather Jacket and, for women, the Women Cross Zipper Biker Leather Jacket.
The Cafe Racer Jacket
The cafe racer strips all of that back. A straight centre zip, a short stand-up collar that usually closes with a single snap or tab, and minimal hardware. Riders crouched low over the tank on stripped-down bikes wanted nothing flapping in the wind — the result is a clean, close silhouette.Because it has so little going on at the front, the cafe racer is easier to wear with a shirt or a fine knit, and sits more comfortably under a coat. See the Black Cafe Racer Leather Jacket for Men or the women's Cafe Racer Black Slim Fit Leather Jacket.
